Differentiating company goals from personal development goals is important because they serve different purposes. Company goals define the organization’s overall direction and success, while personal development goals focus on an individual’s growth, skills, and performance. By keeping them separate, the organization ensures that employees are evaluated fairly, since company outcomes are influenced by many factors beyond one person’s control, whereas personal goals are directly actionable and measurable by the individual.
At the same time, aligning both types of goals is key to maintaining motivation and effectiveness. When personal development supports company goals, employees feel a stronger sense of purpose and engagement, while the business benefits from improved performance. This balance helps avoid burnout, encourages continuous growth, and ensures that individual efforts meaningfully contribute to organizational success.
How to create a company goals cycle
Administrators can create a company goal cycle at any time following the steps described below:
- Go to your Performance section and click on Goals.
- Select the Cycles tab and click on the Create new cycle button.
- Add a name and a description to your cycle.
- Select if you want that all the members of the company or only selected groups participate in the cycle.
💡You will be able to add as many groups as you want using the dropdown menu.
- Select the company goal option that will appear under the Goal type section.
- Decide if you want to Notify employees when the cycle is published. When deactivated, employees won’t receive a notification to set up their goals.
- In order to remind employees to review and update their goals, you can set up an automatic reminder if the goals are inactive. Enable the Send reminder if goals are inactive for X days option and set up the frequency for the reminders.
- Next, set the Start and End date of the cycle.
💡Adding goals will only be available during the cycle duration. Once it expires, no goal will be able to be added to it.
- Finally, click on the Create as draft button to save your goal cycle. At this time the goal will be in draft mode, so employees won’t be able to see it at this stage.
Now your cycle is created and you can either publish it or create one or several primary goals. See here how to do it.
